The Reddy Kilowatt Hour
From Beautiful Downtown Merrifield in the shadow of the Mosaic District, it’s the Reddy Kilowatt Hour, presented Thursdays at 9 pm ET on Radio Fairfax (Fairfax, Virginia). Hosted by a washed-up college DJ that is demonically possessed by a discredited cartoon spokesman for the electric industry. Reddy J Kilowatt is your rock and roll servant, featuring alt-rock, progressive rock, soul, occasional punk rock, deep tracks, forgotten classics, and brand new, angst-ridden favorites. Inspired by the great FM stations and DJs of the 70s and 80s who played whatever they felt like, along with the old AM radio energy of the late 60s - early 70s. There's still great new music out there and we play it in the context of the whole history of both rock and roll. #rock #roll #radio #reddykilowatt #alternative #progressive #whfs #wmms #wxrt #wlir #kroq #wmse #kcrw #cklw #worldsoldestcollegedj #radiofairfax

SPEAKER_04I am always there with a power affair called the Ready Kilowatt.
SPEAKER_01From beautiful downtown Merrifield in the Shadow of the Mosaic District, it's the Ready Kilowatt Hour on Radio Fairfax. Tonight we are absolutely inundated with the new and unusual Deep Eat from Australia. A band called Goodbye. Lawrence Dore, who teaches at University of North Carolina when she doesn't rock and roll. Stuck from Chicago. And an Italian band with the unlikely name of Kumarov Magnificent Backflip. Plus brand new ones from singers with an area connection. We'll hear Snail Mail with her first new one in about four years. And a first one in a long time from Tori Amos. And lots more. For now, let's all say happy birthday to singer Ian Astberry.
SPEAKER_09This is the cultural bigger. So we start for the night. Somewhere in the mood. People sleepy wheels. We want to fight. We will fight. Stop. Free speech. Sweet. Cm.
SPEAKER_01Tori Amos. Doing Gasoline Girl. In Times of Dragons, her latest album. Tori Amos grew up in Baltimore and Silver Spring, Maryland. Now lives in Cornwall, England. Just a little different in this area. This is her 18th album. A very pointed album discussing certain disgusting, actually. Discussing certain unnamed people trying to destroy democracy in the US. Coming to Wolfgrat on July 22nd, she is a very compelling live performer. Before that, we heard Deep doing a seven-minute or so song called Diesel and Meth off their latest album, Soft Tonk. It's our long song for the day. You and I are listening to the world-famous ReadyKill the One Hour coming to you live from the studios of Radio Fairfax. A service of Fairfax Public Access in the illustrious but really cold Fairfax, Virginia. If you have any comments or requests or just want to love us, come visit us on our Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok pages. Or drop me a line at readykradio at gmail.com. That's R E D D Y K Radio. I am the precocious Ready J Kilowat. We have a band now from Bologna, Italy. We don't play very many bands from Bologna, Italy, but we'll play this one. It's probably the only band I've ever played that's named after a Russian gymnast. The band is called Kamarov Magnificent Backflip. Their album is Cop Days. This is a song called Blender.
SPEAKER_05It's how to find food to play. As the time, as the time, as the time shrinks the picture of the child I used to feel I get sick.
SPEAKER_06Under that weight, I broke my pencil, and it seems that I couldn't find the time to say that.
SPEAKER_02And building. Bang bang.
SPEAKER_08Bang bang. If you're back.
SPEAKER_01I want no one and only Iggy Pop. We missed his birthday last month. Iggy Pop was 79 years old on April 21st. Good lord, I feel old when I read that. Bang Bang was the song. That was from an album from 1981 called Hardy. That song was one that his friend David Bowie covered in 1987 on his album Never Let Me Down. Before that, we heard West Side Cowboy. They're out of Manchester, England. And they have an E called So Much Country Till We Get There. We heard Don't Roll Rock. We started out with Hummerall, magnificent backlet from their album Cope. Not Russia. That is a pretty cool name for a band. You're listening to the Ready Kill One Hour on a very cold radio air back evening here in Northern Virginia. Stock is from Chicago. Stock is doing a song here about lifting weight at the gym. I've never known a band other than um village people singing about lifting weights at the gym. But there you go. This is Arthur third album called Optimizer. The song we're gonna hear is Deadlift. Skyward untracting Skyward on attractive source taste is all about me In a bitter party memory to cast my letters to the sea But you can't find anyone else like me In a sour taste is all about me In a bitter party of memory You can cast letters to see Can't find anyone That's uh CYM and Abby Sage doing the wire off their EP called My Whole World Collaboration between artists Mike Green and Chris Mayo who plays Faith in Vampire Weekend and singer Abby Sage who comes from Toronto. Mike Green is from the UK. UK, US, Canada, all represented on that song. Abby Sage played in DC last month. Before that, we heard Snail Mail doing track your beam on her third album, Ricochet. Marilyn native Lindy Jordan, aka Snailmail, had some vocal cord surgery in the last couple years or so between her last album, which was called Valentine, and this one. We started out with Doc doing a song about weightlifting called Deadlift. How about that? They are playing Lightly with the already, yes they did. While you're listening to the Ready Killed What Hour, we are going to take it to the top of the hour right now. This is a song from the ice state. In the year nineteen ninety-nine, they were banned from Earth Scotland. The song is called Playing It's April.
SPEAKER_07I can only pick out the sound of you. I can only pick out the sound of you. I can only pick out the sound. I can't really pick out the sound.
SPEAKER_01The song Sound of You. They came from the University of Missouri and found themselves as a five-piece band in Nashville. Before that, we heard CI State from Scotland doing playing it safe. And with that, it's time for us to unplug the Ready Kilowatt Hour for another week, safely, I guess. A reminder, you can stream our old shows at readykradio.buzzproute.com and also on your favorite podcast app. We'll be back on Radio Fairfax next Thursday night at 9 with both rock and roll. Until next week, it's Ready J Kilowatt, your rock and roll servant. Stay well, stay safe, and please don't kill anyone. Good night.
